The Bridge

A chemist who works for a nuclear lab takes home his computer one day and is woke up in the middle of the night by federal agents and thrown in the slammer for being a spy for a foreign government. He is kept in solitary and questioned harshly by several agents. It's all over the news and he finds out from his lawyer that he is in possession of top secret documents on a small hard drive that was found in his residence. It turns out that someone at the lab had it out for him and secretly put the documents on this hard drive to get him fired.

But it's too late. His reputation is ruined and nobody will hire him because of all the publicity. The government is absolved from wrong doing due to a technicality and covers it's tracts so that he can't sue them for damages.

He loses everything. His house and all his possessions. He ends up living under a bridge with a woman who speaks in a number of voices. At first he thinks she has multiple personality disorders, but it turns out that she's just a voice over artist who is pretending to be crazy to protect herself from people who might harm her. She carries a huge knife and pretends to have night terrors. This pretty much works for her.

Their adventures are with other homeless people of all kinds. Just as the scientist is about to get his life back he dies. The woman's family comes and gets her and takes her home.
